San Diego Civic Center Facilities Needs Assessment

To manage its real estate costs and space needs in the face of a growing workforce, the City of San Diego weighed its options and considered the potential of entering into a partnership with a private downtown developer. On behalf of the City, Gensler conducted a needs assessment to identify optimal space requirements and configurations.  The results became the basis of proposals for a mixed-use development that would house the new Civic Center and City offices. Consolidating its workforce into one diversified and central location allowed the city to reduce its previous space by a third, increase efficiency and public access and bolster civic life.
