The Cato Institute

Washington, D.C.

Since Gensler’s first work with the Cato Institute, this leading public policy research organization has grown three-fold and seen its needs changed. To accommodate expanded staff and operations, the design team artfully blended a new wing with the existing building, maintaining the prominent six-story atrium entry. A more flexible office design takes advatange of every square foot, creating room for the additional workstations needed. Other enhancements include a 200-person auditorium, policy center, double-height conference room, monumental stair and a new roof terrace. Complementing the building’s dramatic architecture, the new interiors reflect Cato’s philosophy and provide the ideal setting for it to host events and effectively communicate policy positions.
