Beijing, China

As a growing force in Beijing’s real estate development arena, Vantone asked Gensler to redesign its 1,146-square-meter Beijing headquarters, in tandem with its own image-remake in light of recent success. Working closely with the client, the design team faced a number of design challenges, including low ceilings, limited natural light and a tight construction schedule. The resulting design utilizes a central-courtyard concept to link the various functional spaces and bring light deeper into the structure. Columns in the public areas that appear as natural tree trunks echo the courtyard’s forested landscaping, drawing nature even further into the building’s spacious layout.
