Gensler Names Two 2013 Brinkmann Scholarship Winners

NEW YORK — Gensler, a leading global design firm, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship competition. Kate Cochrane, a student in the interior design program at the Pratt Institute, received the first place honor, and Alevtina Vinokur, a student at the New York School of Interior Design, won second place.

“Gensler is committed to helping develop the next generation of design professionals,“ said Robin Klehr Avia, regional managing principal for Gensler’s Northeast and Latin America regions and chair of Gensler’s board. “We recognize talented young designers through our annual Brinkmann Scholarship program, and commend Kate and Alevtina for their impressive submissions.”

Both winners received an academic scholarship and a summer internship. Cochrane’s internship took place in Gensler’s San Francisco office, and Vinokur’s internship was in the firm’s New York office.

The Gensler Brinkmann Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 as a memorial to Donald G. Brinkmann, a gifted interior designer, inspirational leader and former partner at Gensler. The scholarship fund celebrates Brinkmann’s career-long commitment to nurturing new design talent by presenting outstanding interior design students with an internship and a financial award to be applied to their final year of school. Candidates for the scholarship must attend a CIDA-accredited school and are evaluated based upon their analysis and problem solving skills, design development, graphic presentation, communication skills and passion.

The 2014 Brinkmann Scholarship program is currently underway, with a submission deadline of December 15, 2013. More details are available at www.gensler.com/scholarships.
