Gensler’s Steven Shinn Appointed to LEED Fellow

LEED Fellows are LEED Professionals at the top of their fields in green building design, engineering and development.

SAN DIEGO – Gensler, the global architecture and design firm, announces the appointment of Steven Shinn, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, Senior Associate to LEED Fellow by the U.S. Green Building Council. Steven’s Fellowship elevates Gensler’s team of LEED Fellows to a total of eight, more than any other single organization globally, and showcases the firm’s commitment to resilient design strategies.

Steven is known in the industry for his advocacy of design, sustainability, health and wellness, and creating livable communities. His 30-year career as an architect started in Ohio and continues in San Diego, where he is involved with local and civic organizations, including mentoring students at the NewSchool of Architecture & Design. In his personal life, Steven practices sustainability, living in dense, walkable urban areas and opting to skateboard to Gensler’s San Diego offices as well as to AIA SD and SDGBC board functions downtown.

“I am honored that the USGBC is acknowledging how I have shared my values in my community and through educational outreach,” says Steven Shinn. “I am also thankful that Gensler is committed to sustainable initiatives across the firm and in our communities. Advocacy for sustainability creates a strong purpose for our projects with the public and the design industry, advancing our goals for creating a better world through the power of design.”

LEED Fellows are nominated by their peers and must demonstrate at least 10 years’ worth of exceptional impact with LEED. The LEED Fellow Evaluation Committee completes an extensive review of the nominees’ portfolio and presents the recommended slate to the GBCI Board of Directors for approval.

The LEED Fellow program was established in 2011 to recognize outstanding LEED APs who have demonstrated exceptional impacts with LEED in key mastery elements related to technical knowledge and skill; a history of exemplary leadership in LEED; significant contributions in teaching, mentoring, or research with proven outcomes; and a history of highly impactful commitment, service, and advocacy for LEED. Nominees must hold an active LEED AP with specialty credential, among other requirements.

The 2021 LEED Fellows will be recognized at this year’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo on the main stage on Thursday, Sept. 23.
