Suman Sorg, FAIA, Joins Gensler
LOS ANGELES — Gensler, the leading global design firm, announced that Suman Sorg, FAIA, has joined the firm. Sorg will serve as Design Director based in the firm’s Los Angeles office.
Sorg brings more than 35 years of experience to Gensler, having led her own Washington, D.C.,-based firm Sorg Architects for 20 plus years.
An award-winning architect, her body of work is diverse, including government, mixed-use and multifamily developments, as well as civic and education projects, both domestically and around the globe. With each design, she seeks to preserve and protect the environment, producing elegant design solutions that improve the city’s building fabric, and knit together its neighborhoods and communities.
“Having led one of the top firms in D.C., Suman Sorg is a tremendous addition to our team that will not only positively impact our clients but our community,” said Rob Jernigan, Regional Managing Principal, Gensler. “She brings a deep bench of expertise navigating private-to-public projects, incredible leadership, and a commitment to design excellence to her new role at Gensler.”
“We live, work, play, and entertain ourselves in very different ways today than we did just a few years ago,” said Suman Sorg, Design Director, Gensler. “I am excited to be part of Gensler’s excellent design atelier in Los Angeles where I can explore innovative ideas in the design of buildings that address these fast-changing norms.”
Sorg is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and her work has been consistently recognized with numerous honors, including 29 AIA awards. She is frequently called upon to serve on design panels and juries and has lectured extensively for the AIA, the National Building Museum, the Urban Land Institute, Center for Architecture in New York, the US Department of State, several universities, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
She is an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees for the National Building Museum, and the Board of Directors for the DC Building Industry Association. She is a Peer Reviewer for the General Services Administration Design Excellence Program and is also a member of the Lambda Alpha International Honor Society.
