For its new Detroit offices, Commonwealth sought a refined, urban space to reflect the passion, diversity and creativity of its staff. Drawing on the media firm’s momentum, Gensler designed a dynamic and forward-thinking space that balances corporate needs and imaginative work. Staff are now consolidated in an open-plan layout with improved efficiency and departmental connections, as well as striking views. A variety of inspired breakout areas and lounges encourage movement and work-mode flexibility. Reclaimed, locally sourced materials and textures provide a rustic yet grounded feel, with elements combined eclectically to mirror the city’s diversity. Music – core to Detroit’s culture and spirit – is embraced thematically, with rooms named for local legends and music played throughout the space.
