Dwight-Englewood School Hajjar STEM Center: Brand Design

Englewood, New Jersey

The embodiment of the school’s STEM mission, this new building blends with the existing campus, yet establishes its own identity. Gensler’s brand design services include signage and wayfinding, a donor recognition program and environmental graphics throughout the facility. The design solutions provide a consistent visual vocabulary, colors, graphics and scale supported by concepts in the school’s curriculum. The signage system encompasses room signs, key spaces, and a flexible grid-panel donor wall referencing DNA sequencing that can be expanded over time. Relevant STEM concepts – suggested by the school's educators – influenced the creation of graphic learning tools or “teachable moments” adjacent writable surfaces at each of the 16 classroom entrances. Seventy innovative moments in history are highlighted in large circle graphics surrounding the school’s Innovation Lab, inspiring students to ask questions, expand their knowledge and push boundaries in science, technology, engineering and math.
