Hotel Lola

New York, New York

Gensler undertook a complete lobby and guestroom renovation to reposition this historic 275-key hotel, opened in 1903 as Hotel Martha Washington. Embracing the hotel’s history as a safe haven for women traveling alone, each floor highlights the work of a significant female designer of the past century through large-scale graphics. The theme continues within the guest rooms, along with sophisticated finishes, plush fabrics and sepia tones throughout the 60+ room types and anomalies. Public areas were similarly transformed, with exaggerated-scale features including curved leather sofas and whimsical wall graphics and a dramatic entry vestibule simulating the experience of being inside a jeweled box.
