Texas Quilt Museum

La Grange, Texas

For the new Texas Quilt Museum, Gensler transformed a pair of 1893 commercial buildings in historic downtown La Grange to accommodate galleries and a textile research library. The project included masonry restoration, full roof replacement and all-new electrical and HVAC systems. To create the ideal display setting with the museum, quilts are mounted on a flexible display system against exposed brick walls or the overlook railings, daylit through ultraviolet-filtered clerestory windows. The grounds include a reconstructed, 19th-century Texas garden faced with a 70-foot-long mural inspired by traditional quilt geometries.
