The Yards

Washington, D.C.

Through a dramatic transformation and revitalization, The Yards is destined to become Washington, D.C.’s newest high-energy, high-style riverfront neighborhood. Blending adaptive reuse of historic buildings with new construction, the multi-phased development comprises 1.8 million sf of new office space, 2,800 residential units, 400,000 sf of retail and a significant riverfront park. The plan reimagines historically significant structures as mixed-use pavilions that would become social retail centers amidst the riverfront park, lending a walkable, family-friendly orientation to the area’s burgeoning live-work culture. Generous use of glass enlivens the development, encouraging views both inward and out.
