William James College

Newton, Massachusetts

Following a decade of major growth, William James College (formerly the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology) needed a larger, permanent home to keep pace with its ongoing evolution. Adressing trends in education and technology, the design incorporated a mixture of open and private spaces that are functional, flexible and technology-rich, from living rooms and cafés to traditional study areas.  The new campus provides a sense of community, where learning can happen in many places and ways. Natural light is maximized, with broad glass expanses connecting the interior to nature.  Numerous sustainable design principles were used and art is present throughout for an environment that engages and nurtures wellbeing.
