Brent Van Gunten, AIA, LEED AP
Studio Director, Technical Director, Principal
As a Technical Director based in the Bay Area, Brent guides his teams in developing both new construction and major repositioning for commercial offices, life science facilities, and education projects. He facilitates the alignment of design goals with key energy performance metrics, from Nvidia’s bold new workplace and E. & J. Gallo Winery’s delicately shaded Dry Creek Building, to the high-performance solar shades featured at 633 Folsom, and the adaptive reuse of 1100 Broadway in downtown Oakland. Brent partners with clients to deliver cutting-edge energy strategy and innovative design solutions to commercial developments, laboratory R&D spaces, and university facilities.
Brent’s stewardship of construction assures the integrity of his clients’ investments in design. He accomplishes this through distilling complex architectural goals and technical demands into transparent choices which stakeholders can embrace. This approach enables design-sensitive solutions to user experience and sustainability. Brent holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University.
