1420 Kettner & Ash

Gensler’s design team transformed 1420 Kettner, currently one of only two existing office buildings within the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego, into a unique, active work environment with amenities and outdoor space to attract today’s workers. The repositioned 1420 Kettner & Ash building spans approximately 123,000 square feet with a two-level subterranean garage, and offers modern, flexible workspaces with communal recreational spaces.

The reimagined design enhances the seven-story building’s curb appeal through a sophisticated lobby remodel and activation of its retail space. The upgraded exterior makes for an impactful sense of arrival, while its atrium features an engaging graphic display that is visible from the outside. A convenient on-site cafe experience reflects the local neighborhood vibe, while outdoor patios provide areas for tenants to enjoy the unbeatable San Diego climate and offer alternative places to work and gather. The office building repositioning project was recognized with an IIDA Calibre award in 2021.
