Michael has always loved retail. As a kid, he says, walking into any store was a thrill. He co-founded Gensler’s Retail Practice Area shortly after joining the firm in 1985, mashing up design influences drawn from theater, hospitality, residential, commercial interiors and architecture. He has served as Board Member for SEGD and Advisory Board Member for VMSD magazine and lectured at California College of Arts and Crafts and Savannah College of Art and Design. As a Studio Director, Michael had people as his focus; he partnered closely with HR to support his staff’s professional development and make their experience at Gensler the best it could be. In early 2014, Gensler's Northwest Region asked him to become its HR Director; he embraced this new people-centric role as an opportunity to focus on morale, culture, people and learning. Michael holds a B.A. from Boston University and a B.F.A. from the California College of the Arts.
