Arts & Culture Practice Area Leader, Principal

A Firmwide Leader of Gensler’s Arts & Culture Practice Area, Richard believes in beautiful, inventive and pragmatic design. His holistic approach has garnered multiple design honors, including seven AIA awards while at Gensler. Richard also serves as the Design Director for Gensler’s San José, Costa Rica office, and he co-leads design for the firm’s Latin America region. In addition to cultural institutions, Richard has more than 15 years of design experience with corporate interiors, office buildings, hotels, exhibitions, stadium interiors, schools, retail and residential projects. Born in Zimbabwe, Richard received his architecture training in South Africa where he worked for a number of years before moving to the U.S. and earning his professional licensure. He began his Gensler career in Los Angeles and led the 2012 relocation design of that office, which was voted Gensler Project of the Year and received more than 12 additional awards including two AIA design awards. Richard was recognized among California’s “Top 20 Under 40” by Engineering News-Record.
