Colfax Corner

South Bend, Indiana

For nearly a century, the South Bend Tribune building helped shape the city’s civic and cultural identity as a hub for information and ideas. Vacant since 2019, the Art Deco landmark presented both a challenge and an opportunity to honor that legacy while building something bold.

Led by Ancora and anchored by the University of Notre Dame, Colfax Corner reimagines the Tribune through adaptive reuse alongside a new five-story research and office building, concentrating research, talent, and enterprise at the heart of downtown. As the first major investment in South Bend’s emerging Tech & Talent District, the project is expected to bring 400+ jobs downtown and generate over $750 million in economic impact over the next decade, positioning the city as a hub for advanced computing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

The new building takes its cues from the Tribune, reinterpreting its proportions and material palette with a contemporary hand. Together, the pair draws people in through a central courtyard, active retail, and café spaces, creating a destination that blends history with innovation.
