Omni Houston Westside

Houston, Texas

Recovering from the damage wrought by Hurricane Harvey, Omni Houston Westside's renovation included reimagining the main lobby, a grab-and-go market, bar, restaurant, ballroom, and meeting rooms. The redesign was heavily inspired by the physical process of oil refinement through layers of earth and water, which inspired an industrial material palette, menswear-influenced textiles, and oil derrick-inspired geometries. Aged copper, bronze, and weathered steel accents give an edge to woven leathers and softer earth tones, which balance out tranquil water features. The main lobby’s atrium design hints at local geology and elements of oil refining, while the atmospheric, refined bar evokes a speakeasy. The cafe and market were similarly upgraded to create attention-grabbing moments while providing services and space to appeal to a broader clientele.
