Gensler Moves Its Birmingham Office to St Philip’s Place

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. — Gensler Birmingham will be moving its offices into a new space at No. 4 St Philip’s Place in central Birmingham as the team continues to expand and grow, delivering world-class services to its clients. Having outgrown its previous home at the Custard Factory in Digbeth, Gensler decided to move closer into the city centre. The new location positions the office right in the heart of Birmingham’s central business district, bringing the firm closer to clients and reinforcing its commitment to Birmingham and the wider region.

The Birmingham office has gone from strength to strength, growing by 30% in the last year alone. Birmingham is Gensler’s European hub for Critical Facilities and the team also works with clients across the Financial Services, Consumer Goods, Mixed-Use, Retail, and Residential practice areas.

The relocation comes at a time of great hardship as the world continues to battle a global pandemic. Covid-19 has catalysed a workplace revolution and Gensler's dedicated teams of architects, designers, and strategists have been on the front line. Leveraging experiences from the past year, Gensler designed a flexible and multi-faceted space that seamlessly blends work and life, the epitome of a hybrid office. The team will return to the office having adopted new technologies and ways of working, offering employees connected experiences and opportunities to collaborate in an adaptive environment that supports employee wellbeing.

Gensler's new home at No. 4

The new workspace at No. 4 has incorporated the learnings from the firm's latest Workplace Surveys whilst creating a dynamic mix of activities, fostering collaboration, and encouraging social interaction, an integral aspect of the workplace that we’ve all been missing. Gensler’s new space at No. 4 will deliver a holistic workplace experience, celebrating Gensler's culture and the new world of hybrid working.

“We’re excited about our move to the St Philip’s Place and the opportunity to further grow our network and partner with clients from within the Colmore Business District. Relocating at this time offers us an ideal opportunity to determine the next generation of working environment, tailored around the needs of our design teams and informed by our research and learnings over the last year,” said Tariq Shaikh, Managing Director. “Our new home will provide a flexible range of work settings, perfectly suited to our hybrid workforce, allowing us to create together and consistently deliver industry-leading design.”

St Philip’s Place

St Philip’s Place sits just off Colmore Row in the heart of Birmingham’s central business district. Gensler’s recent Design Forecast recognises that central business districts are about to undergo great change as they adapt to the need to provide new spaces to live, work, and play, encouraging human interaction, collaboration, and shared experience. The Gensler team leveraged its access to global knowledge, research-driven design, and unparalleled expertise through a growing studio of diverse and highly talented people. Birmingham itself is on a path to radical transformation, as recently outlined in Birmingham City Council’s vision for change in central Birmingham in the Future City Plan, which addresses key challenges and opportunities.
