Gensler Seattle Welcomes Bert deViterbo, Jr. in New Role as Office Managing Director
Former Office Leader, Ryan Haines, Assumes New Role
SEATTLE — Gensler, the world’s leading architecture, design, and planning firm, has announced the leadership elevation of Bert deViterbo, Jr., AIA, IIDA, NOMA, CDT, FwA to Managing Director of the Seattle office. Recently transitioned from Gensler’s San Francisco office, deViterbo brings over 20 years and a wealth of technical expertise, strong client relationships, market presence, and a passion for growing others.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bert to our Seattle office. His leadership and strategic insight will be instrumental as we grow our footprint in the Pacific Northwest,” said Karen Thomas, Regional Managing Principal. “With a global perspective shaped by experience across Latin America, Asia, and beyond, he brings a unique blend of design and business expertise to Seattle. I am looking forward to this next chapter and cannot wait to see the impact he will make in the Greater Seattle market.”
As a challenger of conventional norms, deViterbo advocates for spaces that prioritize human well-being, embraces innovative principles, and champions environmental stewardship. His passion for working with organizations specifically focused on job placement and training for the unhoused (PRC) and the DIFFA Organization influences his drive to use his vision to make an impact on non-profits in Seattle.
Since joining Gensler in 2011, deViterbo has played a significant role in expanding the firm’s business, while growing into a dynamic and influential leader, known for his ability to collaborate seamlessly with team members, consultants, and clients alike. In the past year, he created strategies for growth for all the Northwest Region’s practice areas. Prior to that, he led the NW Sciences Practice Area. A natural client magnet, deViterbo’s award-winning portfolio spans a wide range of Practice Areas, across Sciences, Technology, Professional Services, and beyond. His mission is clear: to empower companies to excel and accelerate their strategic initiatives.
“Seattle is at an inflection point coming out of the pandemic and I’m optimistic about the future of the city.” said deViterbo. “I believe that design has a powerful role to play in shaping the future of Seattle’s sports, tech, sciences and higher education sectors, driving collective cultural and economic growth for the region. I am also excited to dive in and partner with local businesses and organizations that affect change, addressing issues like homelessness and poverty to creating inclusive spaces that support marginalized communities.”
Alongside this transition, former managing director Ryan Haines will take on a new leadership role within the firm. Haines will assume the role of Strategic Relationship Director and Principal. In this role, he will focus on strengthening existing client partnerships both locally and globally, while building new ones in Seattle’s landscape of emerging companies. Haines’ strategic mind, global perspective, and relationship focus will be expanding Gensler’s work and influence in the Seattle market and beyond.
