Bank of America Plaza Lobby Renovations

Atlanta, Georgia

Bank of America Plaza is a 55-story Class A office tower at the connecting point between Midtown and Downtown Atlanta. Built in 1992, the iconic 1,023-foot postmodern skyscraper is the tallest building in the Southeast and the focal point of the Atlanta skyline. Just a short distance from the historic Fox Theatre, a MARTA transit station, and Georgia Tech’s campus, the gold leaf-capped tower reflects the city’s entrepreneurial spirit and serves as a beacon of progress for the region.

To revitalize the iconic tower, improve the tenant experience, and attract new tenants to the building, owner-operator CP Group enlisted Gensler and Holder Construction to transform the landmark’s lobby and public space into a modern, sophisticated, and inviting destination for working professionals. Through restrained architectural interventions and hospitality-inspired interior renovations, the redesign demonstrates CP Group’s commitment to providing exceptional service for tenants and exemplifies the workplace experience of the future.

The updated plaza reconnects the tower to pedestrian and street activity, bringing the “golden glow” of the tower’s top to the ground floor for a bright and engaging entry experience. The 24,000-square-foot lobby’s interior design retains the original Art Deco style but with striking, contemporary finishes and elevated amenities. Italian marble floors, 40-foot curved, warm metal-paneled ceilings, and open sightlines provide an upscale upgrade, with warm lighting accents found in boutique hotels. High-end furniture and gold finishes play off the existing warmth while layering in sophistication.

The Bank of America Plaza lobby redesign serves as a blueprint for the post-COVID office tower: an amenity-driven destination that convenes and connects tenants and enhances the property’s appeal to visitors and the public.
