Biola University, Blackstone Hall

La Mirada, California

The latest major addition to the Biola University campus, this four-story residence hall mediates between the modernist campus and the adjacent residential fabric of California bungalows. For the school’s growing student body, the design strikes a creative balance between maximizing capacity and making room for amenity spaces. Along with 350 beds and community bathrooms paired with predominantly double-occupancy rooms, the residence hall incorporates generous common areas on each floor for live-learn collaborative study. Amenities include a café, meeting room/classroom, roof terrace, outdoor amphitheater, basketball and volleyball courts and a fire pit.
