Georgetown Day School

Washington, D.C.

Founded in 1945 as the first racially integrated school in the nation's capital, Georgetown Day School continues to be a beacon of progressive education. To prepare for the next chapter in its remarkable history, the school engaged Gensler to unite its academic campus, which was previously spread across multiple locations. Now housed in one building located across from the high school, the lower and middle schools are differentiated architecturally. Common spaces are positioned in the center of the interiors, forming shared, flexible learning environments surrounded by individual classrooms. With this orientation, the new classrooms benefit from an abundance of natural light and stimulating views of the playing field and surrounding neighborhood. Although tightly planned within a complex urban environment, the LEED Gold-Certified Georgetown Day School creates a spacious atmosphere with a united, efficient campus design that prioritizes student engagement and success.
