In working together to redesign its workplace, the legal client and Gensler defined the project’s design principle as “a place where you want to be,” and set out to infuse the space with a dramatic hospitality ambiance. The team paid special attention to the D.C. office’s everyday experience, embedded technology to support evolving work modes, and prioritized climate resilience properties.

The office redesign brings the outdoors in at every possible moment and maximizes the impact of natural light. Living indoor greenery enhances the light-infused space and grounds the connection to the outdoors. Typical floors all feature an interior garden space that can act as a refuge or spark connection between attorneys and staff. The workplace notably features two invigorating havens — a richly appointed attorney lounge and a lounge that specifically caters to professionals early in their careers, with healthy food choices and treetop views. Ultimately, this confidential global law firm was able to leverage a time of unprecedented challenge to usher in a better quality of work and life for its attorneys and workers.
