Hotel JAL CITY Haneda Tokyo West Wing

Tokyo, Japan

A 10-minute drive from Haneda Airport, Hotel JAL City Haneda Tokyo West Wing offers added convenience for business and leisure travelers, and will accommodate an influx in flights due to Tokyo’s upcoming 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. Gensler was responsible for the hotel’s interiors, based on the design concept, “J-SELECT.” As the letter “J” stands for both Japan and the word “JAL,” the design theme symbolizes the unique local touches used throughout the space. In the lobby, various graphics inspired by Haneda Airport’s runway are installed on parts of the lobby’s floor tiles, creating a clever wayfinding system that immediately engages visitors. Public areas are decorated with handcrafted works of art, providing further visual interest. On each of the eight floors, corridors contain locally-made furniture and walls are lined with traditional, Japanese-inspired wallpaper. Guests can enjoy four types of guestrooms, with elements that further mirror the country’s culture – carpets that feature traditional, Japanese motifs and bedding made from folk textiles. And, large-scale prints of Japan’s landscapes and cityscapes beautify the walls. The result is a hotel that provides travelers a unique stay through a celebration of Japanese culture.
