Multiple Locations, Japan

For lululemon, stores are trend hubs, designed to showcase the wellness lifestyle behind the athleticwear brand – and offer a platform to connect with local communities through inspiring programming. Gensler partnered with the Canadian athletic apparel retailer on the concept design of new locations in Japan, which focus on creating an authentic sense of community connection. The design team was driven by lululemon’s philosophy of the “Sweatlife,” rooted in a passion for leading a healthy, mindful lifestyle that includes a “sweat, grow, and connect” approach.

The Shinsaibashi store design is inspired by the concept of “Groove,” and closely ties to the local culture of Osaka. The customer journey features dynamic installations at the ceiling and walls, designed to create moments of surprise and delight, while in-store yoga classes welcome neighbors. The Harajuku store spotlights a range of apparel and accessories, and also invites guests to enjoy a lineup of events hosted at a dedicated yoga studio. These stores are flexibly designed to allow the spaces to transform and evolve the brand.
