Nokia R&D Campus

Sunnyvale, California

In an effort to address shifting work processes, Nokia engaged Gensler to develop global guidelines for its next generation of Research and Design space. This LEED® Gold-certified headquarters was the first site to implement them. With a goal of creating a model for open innovation to accommodate diverse work styles and constant change, the project’s architectural form manifests as growing, abstracted shapes. Open, flexible gathering spaces contrast with focus areas, organized into a hub-and-flex zone where open workstations and “privacy huts” surround a common area. Bright colors accent a neutral backdrop with walls and cabinetry of Finnish-inspired pine.
