Rivertown Warehouse District

Detroit, Michigan

The Rivertown Warehouse District is designed as an urban getaway for residents and visitors alike — a community linked by historic character with a riverfront experience yet to exist in Detroit. A mixed-use development concept commissioned to determine the highest and best use of the land, the Rivertown Warehouse District is an unbuilt project that creates a vision of the future for two key sites along the Detroit River. The guiding principles of the project included walkability, respect for the area’s unique character, and elevating the design expression of the newly created district. Large expanses of glass in the residential units provide vistas of the river, and use of brick as a main architectural material reinforces the legacy of the neighborhood. Generous open green areas and green roof terraces activate the outdoors for public use and promote community.
