Synopsys Munich

Munich, Germany

For Synopsys’ new Munich office, the vision was to reimagine the tech workplace as a hospitality-inspired, welcoming environment to attract next-gen talent. Designed by Gensler, the interiors support evolving workstyles while responding to the client’s updated workplace guidelines, fitting a growing team into a more efficient footprint.

Located on the ground floor of the timber-structured, LEED Platinum-certified i8 building, the office sits in one of Munich’s most vibrant emerging districts, close to major transport links and surrounded by amenities open to the public. Its highly visible position required a design that felt materially aligned with the architecture. Rich, natural materials, including wood, marble accents, and terrazzo-like recycled tabletops, create a grounded yet elevated feel. High ceilings and large windows bring in natural light, while lowered wall panelling and suspended planters introduce a sense of intimacy and comfort.

Modularity and flexibility were central to the design strategy. Gensler tested and refined over 20 space planning modules to address both spatial constraints and client ambitions. The result is a workplace that seamlessly flexes between uses. A standout triangular collaboration hub enables hands-on workshops or informal dining. A central atrium welcomes guests with light and greenery, and biophilic design elements, including generous planting, enhance wellbeing and acoustic comfort.

The new space reflects Synopsys’ high-performance culture and global identity while offering a more contemporary and human-centred experience. It’s a step change in how the company works and presents itself — not only in Munich, but around the world: bold, efficient, and designed with care for people and planet.
