Johnny Kousparis and Michael Rey Join Gensler San Antonio as Co-Managing Directors

SAN ANTONIO – Gensler, the leading global architecture, design, and planning firm, announces the promotion of Johnny Kousparis, AIA, IIDA, CDT, LEED AP BD+C, and welcomes Michael Rey, AIA, NCARB, as Co-Managing Directors of Gensler San Antonio.

Johnny began his career at Gensler Houston in 2005, soon after graduating from the University of Houston. Throughout his career, he has overseen some of the firm’s most complex, large-scale campus, hospitality, and office building projects, which includes the ExxonMobil Corporate Campus and currently, the Walmart Home Office Campus.

In addition to his project work, Johnny has held several leadership roles, including Design Management Leader for the Gensler Houston office, Regional Design Management Leader, and most recently as Regional Design Synergy Leader. He was named Principal in 2019, the youngest person in the South Central region to achieve that honor.

Michael brings 20 years of architecture, business development, and project management experience. He has worked on a variety of building types, spanning civic, commercial, educational, hospitality, multifamily, and urban design. Michael’s portfolio includes projects such as the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) National Security Collaboration Center and School of Data Science, ProjectMEND headquarters, an organization that supports veterans, the Alameda Theater, the San Antonio Zoo animal hospital, and ChildSafe facility, which supports children who are survivors of abuse.

Michael comes to Gensler from Overland Partners, where he worked as Senior Principal and VP of Operations. He has taught at the UTSA School of Architecture and serves as the chair of their advocacy and advisory council. Michael received a Bachelor in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University, followed by a Master of Architecture from Yale University.
