Credence and Sidebar

Houston, Texas

CHALLENGE
Levi Goode, a fifth-generation Texan and CEO of the iconic Goode Company Restaurants, set out to establish an independent lifestyle brand with the debut of Credence and Sidebar, two ambitious culinary concepts located at The McKinley in Houston’s Memorial City. The challenge was to create a pair of spaces that not only reflected Goode’s refined taste and global inspirations, but also honored his Texas heritage and live-fire cooking roots. Innovating through design and engineering obstacles, the team delivered a high-impact, immersive experience that elevates the neighborhood’s culinary and cultural offerings.

SOLUTION
The design of Credence and Sidebar is a masterclass in storytelling through architecture and interiors.

Guests are welcomed into Credence through a grand atrium where brass arches, white oak millwork, and green velvet curtains set the tone for a luxurious yet approachable experience. The dining room features a dramatic double-barrel vaulted ceiling, a live wood-fire open kitchen, and handmade oak and walnut tables with brass coin inlays by local artisan Mid City Handmade. Lighting fixtures sourced from around the world echo Goode’s international travels, while curated artwork by Kourtney Roy adds a cinematic, surreal layer.

Hidden behind an unmarked stairwell door, Sidebar adds contrasts with a moody, speakeasy vibe, accented with chocolate brown leather walls, gold marble tables, and bold photography by Patty Carroll. From the tambour-wrapped columns to the velvet curtain dividing the spaces, each detail carefully reflects Goode’s adventurous spirit and commitment to Texas hospitality.

IMPACT
Credence and Sidebar have quickly become standout destinations in Houston’s evolving culinary scene, reinforcing Memorial City as a hub for upscale dining and cultural engagement. Their presence activates “The Lawn,” a central greenspace within MetroNational’s 300-acre mixed-use development, and complements nearby retail, office, and residential offerings. The spaces serve as a testament to Levi Goode’s vision of a Texas lifestyle brand that blends authenticity, artistry, and innovation to extend meaningful experiences to the community and visitors alike.
