Gensler's design concept for Custom House Quay positions the five star hotel development at the magnificent historic port location at the confluence of the River Lee in Cork, Ireland. The mixed-use development project aims to re-use and adapt the existing Custom House — the repurposing of this heritage site will provide a tremendous new asset for Cork and its visitors. The development will act as a catalyst in the transformation of an entire city district.
The historic headland quay contains the current Port of Cork offices within a listed early 19th century building and a disused stone warehouse. The set-piece composition will include the conversion of a disused street into a stunning, naturally vented covered courtyard, a landmark hotel tower soaring 450 feet high, and a distillery at the head of the quay.
