Custom House Quay

Cork, Republic of Ireland

Gensler’s design concept for Custom House Quay positions the five star hotel development at the magnificent historic port location at the confluence of the River Lee in Cork, Ireland. The mixed-use development project aims to re-use and adapt the existing Custom House — the repurposing of this heritage site will provide a tremendous new asset for Cork and its visitors. The development will act as a catalyst in the transformation of an entire city district.

The historic headland quay contains the current Port of Cork offices within a listed early 19th century building and a disused stone warehouse. The set-piece composition will include the conversion of a disused street into a stunning, naturally vented covered courtyard, a landmark hotel tower soaring 450 feet high, and a distillery at the head of the quay.
