World Food Prize

Des Moines, Iowa

The World Food Prize, considered the Nobel Prize for food and agriculture, honors individuals working to improve the world’s food supply and production. Designed by Gensler, in collaboration with RDG as AOR and Hoerr Schaudt as landscape architect, the World Food Prize's new headquarters occupies the former Des Moines Public Library, a magnificent Beaux Arts library listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Gensler’s preservation and adaptive reuse incorporates exhibit, ceremonial and workspaces into the building’s historic fabric while adding contemporary sustainable systems including include geothermal wells and solar roof panels. Gensler also designed, secured, and installed art throughout the building to tell the story of the World Food Prize and the achievements it celebrates.
