Gensler Designers Todd Heiser and Stefanie Shunk Join IIDA’s Prestigious College of Fellows for 2023

New York/Chicago — Gensler proudly announces that Gensler Principals Todd Heiser and Stefanie Shunk have been inducted into the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) College of Fellows.

As the highest and most prestigious honor IIDA awards its members, IIDA Fellows are recognized for their outstanding professional achievement, exceptional leadership in the interior design community, and significant contributions to the profession and industry. IIDA Fellows impact design through their thought leadership, community engagement, mentorship, and dedication to supporting next-generation designers.

Todd Heiser is a Principal and Co-Managing Director in Gensler’s Chicago office with more than 25 years of experience in transforming spaces around the globe. Focused on workplace strategy and design, Todd’s work consistently elevates the conceptual and technical practice while fostering deep client partnerships. His genuine interest in people, accessible nature, and passion for leading teams to success have made him a trusted mentor to many. As a champion of DEI, Todd has shepherded new initiatives at Gensler including GAP (Gensler Apprentice Program,) a two-year apprenticeship program that aims to create alternative pathways into the design industry.

Todd’s expertise is regularly sought after by organizations, conferences, and global media outlets, exemplifying his influence in the industry and beyond. He has been an active IIDA member over the years, earning the notable role in leading the design of the organization’s national headquarters.

“The IIDA is a powerful resource with opportunities to shape young design talent and endless skill-building potential for those further along in their careers,” said Heiser. “My affiliation with IIDA has undoubtedly helped me grow as a leader, connecting me to great design minds that have become my friends and peers. I am proud to represent Gensler as I am ushered into this illustrious group of Fellows.”

Stefanie Shunk is a Principal and Design Director, who is based in New York. Stefanie has over 30 years of experience fostering design innovation that propels her clients into the future. She creates dynamic interiors that reflect a company’s core vision and values through close collaboration with her clients and project teams. Her designs are centered around purpose-driven, technology-rich, and hospitality-forward experiences that transform business and culture. Always looking to the future, Stefanie passionately advocates for Gensler’s GC3 initiatives toward carbon neutrality and a more sustainable and resilient future.

A natural leader and mentor, Stefanie invests in the industry’s rising design stars with the same rigor and attention to detail she brings to her work. She founded Gensler’s Northeast Region Design Leadership Program to help grow the next generation of designers.

“Looking back, I recognize the foundation that helped build my career and the importance of creating pathways to success within the interior design profession,” said Shunk. “The IIDA is an incredible platform for advancing our industry, and I am honored to serve as a mentor to pave the way for future designers and lead for positive change and impact.”
