Carlos is a Design Director at Gensler New York and brings more than 35 years of experience providing thought leadership and innovative solutions in architecture, design, and business strategy. He approaches design as an act of authorship — one that gives form to ideas, institutions, and the evolving conditions of contemporary life. Carlos’ work is grounded in the belief that architecture and design must not only respond to the present but also anticipate what is emerging.
Carlos has received numerous honors and accolades, including an induction into the International Interior Design Association’s College of Fellows and Gensler’s prestigious Don Brinkmann Award for design excellence. Carlos was inducted into Interior Design’s 2023 Hall of Fame, honoring the design innovation that has defined his professional career. His future-focused insights are valued by global clients across a range of industries, including the tech sector, financial services, media, professional services, consumer goods, and developers. For more than 25 years, he was a visiting professor of design at The Art Institute of Chicago as well as a board member of various not-for-profit organizations. Carlos graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Architecture and earned his Master’s of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
