Confidential Energy Client
Hamburg, Germany
Gensler designed a new two-storey, future-ready workplace and reception area for a global energy client, balancing the company’s international identity with Hamburg’s distinctive character. Located within Europe’s largest mixed-use development and integrated into the Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier, the new office strengthens the client’s presence in the city. The design creates a strong connection between employees, the waterfront, and the surrounding urban environment, drawing inspiration from Hamburg’s harbour and industrial heritage. Warm brick-inspired tones reference the city’s architecture, while cooler hues create a visual link to the water. This refined, neutral palette is enriched with vibrant accents aligned with the client’s brand.
Targeting LEED Platinum certification, sustainability is embedded throughout the workplace through responsible material selection and biophilic design strategies. Three open internal courtyards bring abundant daylight into the space, while natural materials and planting create a welcoming and human-centred environment. At the heart of the workplace, a central hub serves as a destination for informal gathering and collaboration. A flexible lounge overlooking the waterfront provides a desk-free setting that encourages movement, wellbeing, and spontaneous interaction. Through a highly collaborative process with local teams and employees, Gensler ensured the workplace reflects the needs and aspirations of its users. The result is a flexible, sustainable workplace that translates a global brand into an authentic local experience – supporting evolving ways of working while celebrating Hamburg’s unique identity.
