Group 1 Automotive Headquarters

Houston, Texas

CHALLENGE
Across the industry, automotive retailers are reimagining their headquarters as scalable, strategic assets that are designed to support expansion into electric vehicle markets and evolving service models. Group 1 Automotive, a Fortune 500 company with more than 200 dealerships in the U.S. and U.K., sought to create a headquarters that would not only reflect the brand’s identity but also support flexibility, growth, and offer a high-quality employee experience.

SOLUTION
Gensler’s design team drew inspiration from automotive materials and finishes found in vehicles to shape a cohesive spatial language. The hybrid layout — with open workstations and glass-front offices — promotes visual connectivity and spontaneous interaction. Boomerang-shaped desks offer privacy, while collaboration zones and multipurpose rooms with operable walls and advanced technology provide flexible meeting options. Thoughtful sight lines enhance wayfinding and natural light, while thematic elements such as the “car body” lobby and “engine” amenity areas create a dynamic, immersive environment.

IMPACT
The result is a vibrant, future-ready headquarters that elevates both employee wellbeing and organizational efficiency. The space supports professional development and cross-departmental collaboration, while offering a visually engaging atmosphere. From the leather and metal finishes in conference rooms to the café inspired by tire treads, every detail reinforces the brand’s identity and creates a memorable experience. The headquarters stands as a powerful representation of Group 1 Automotive’s commitment to innovation, culture, and growth.
