Gensler’s Retail design team worked with Lids to design the new NBA (National Basketball Association) flagship store in Paris, situated within a historic building in Paris’ Latin Quarter, an area known for its diverse and energetic personality. The store is designed as a multipurpose retail experience, rather than simply a place to shop. Modular fixtures on moveable castors allow for a flexible space that can be used for shopping, events, gaming, screenings, customisation, and other activations.
The store design evokes the brand through details including basketball court lines applied across the shop floor, as well as a striking repositioned central staircase in the NBA’s signature shade of blue and pops of the brand’s red within seating areas. Designed using state-of-the-art BIM technology tools, the kit of parts can be adapted and rolled out across different retail locations. This also facilitated dynamic scheduling of fixtures to calculate SKU (stock keeping unit) counts for the client business and visual merchandising team.
