Drawing upon a 20-year relationship that developed a global real estate portfolio through new build-outs and in-place phased renovations, Sidley and Gensler embarked on a new assignment in D.C. In 2012, Sidley Austin LLP, located at 1501 K Street, NW, was nearing the end of a 15-year lease and requested Gensler’s assistance evaluating options for renewal versus relocation. Gensler prepared test fit plan studies for a renewed occupancy at 1501 K and other properties. Analysis of efficient space utilization and opportunities for an expression of Sidley’s culture and position as a leading global firm, as well as cost and schedule implications, helped clarify a final decision to remain at their current location. Gensler worked with JM Zell Partners Ltd, to identify potential improvements to the 1501 K base building.
