Spin Master

Toronto, Ontario

The Canadian children’s entertainment company Spin Master partnered with Gensler Toronto to create a refined, creative workspace for its entertainment division. While other office floors leaned into Spin Master’s playful image, the entertainment division wanted a sophisticated work environment that reflected its artistic sensibilities. Dark paneled walls at the entrance give the impression of a vintage movie theater while above, a custom light fixture in the shape of Spin Master’s logo illuminates the space. This dramatic entrance gives way to a bright and open workspace situated along the perimeter, allowing for an abundance of natural light. Writable and tackable surfaces provide ample room for artists to brainstorm and storyboard. The library and cafe function as venues for informal collaboration and viewing parties. The only explicit use of Spin Master’s cartoons is in the phone rooms which depict a gilded line art of notable characters. The light fixtures throughout subtly pay homage to the classic game of tic-tac-toe, with X-shaped lights in the work area and O-shaped lights in offices.
