University City Regional Library

Charlotte, North Carolina

Gensler partnered to reimagine the University City Regional Library, which has been a part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system since 1993. In its newest iteration, the 35,000 square-foot library will be outfitted with generous dedicated children and teen programming areas, a drive-through book return, community programming areas, and study spaces.

With a focus on community engagement, the second largest regional library in Mecklenburg County will continue to provide invaluable resources supporting literacy, education, and access to technology for locals. Accessible by several modes of public transportation and ADA compliant, the library design and its positioning take into account accessibility to best meet the needs of diverse populations. Located near other new developments, University City’s library location will provide visitors with easy access to external amenities in the form of a one-mile pedestrian trail, lakefront park views, and retail.
