WATERMARK Baton Rouge, Autograph Collection

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Gensler revived Baton Rouge’s first skyscraper to its former glory and transformed it into an upscale, boutique hotel as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The design seamlessly weaves and juxtaposes Art Deco, Mid-Century, and contemporary furniture, lighting, and artwork, as well as elements of commerce relating to the building’s origins as the Louisiana National Bank in 1925 and growth as the State Office Building in the 1960’s. To maintain the building's history, several original elements throughout the hotel including eight bas-relief murals, a sculpted marble entry staircase, and eight Greek-revival fluted columns were integrated into the contemporary design. The 144-key hotel offers a conference center, fitness center, and two restaurants within the building’s compact architectural layout.
