Climate Action Through Design
The Carbon Impact of Our Work

Making a positive impact on our cities and communities is part of Gensler’s DNA — and pursuing sustainable and resilient design solutions is more crucial than ever as part of that effort. Since Gensler’s attendance at COP23 and our commitment to the Paris Pledge in 2015, we have leveraged our yearly Climate Action Through Design (previously Impact by Design) reports to publish a transparent report-out of our portfolio’s designed performance each year.

In recent years, and in recognition of the increasing urgency of addressing climate change and the impact of the built environment on the warming of our planet, we established the Gensler Cities Climate Challenge (GC3) as our call-to-action for the industry, and our commitment to achieving net zero carbon impact for our entire portfolio by 2030.

How are we progressing toward these goals? The graphs below outline our most current portfolio performance metrics, calculated in line with the methodology behind the Architecture 2030 challenge and targets. Following these graphs, we also show an estimate of the carbon impact over time, and carbon savings, or our design portfolio based on these performance metrics.
