The healthcare system in the United States is evolving. Innovations in clinical technology, growing consumer demand, and pressures from payers are driving a shift away from traditional hospitals to more distributed care settings, including home-based care. But how can these changes help close health equity gaps and address the social determinants of health such as socioeconomic factors, physical environment, and individual health behaviors? This research examines a proposed integrated healthcare ecosystem designed to improve community health. It focuses on the adaptable, right-sized hospital of the future, and examines the various impacts these changes will have across the healthcare sector.
