Eagle County Regional Airport

Gypsum, Colorado

The Eagle County Regional Airport serves its namesake Eagle County, which includes visitors to the nearby Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts. Its existing concourse experiences significant crowding, especially during the peak winter season. Gensler’s design team was challenged with resolving hold room sizing issues to accommodate both current and future enplanements and improve the overall passenger experience. The project included the demolition and replacement of the existing concourse with a new structure consisting of six gates, hold rooms, restrooms, conveyances, core shell space for future concessionaire spaces, support services, and security space. The result is a design that reflects the aesthetic of the region and enhances its operational function through peak tourism seasons. The simple form, inspired by the nostalgia of rural barns, responds to the internal function while framing the north view to the airfield and scenic mountains beyond.
