As architect of record for the base building and interior designer, Gensler linked the complex parts and pieces that create the magic of the Ion. Located in the historical former Midtown Sears building, the Ion supports a tenant-driven collective of entrepreneurial, corporate, and academic collaborative communities at every stage of the innovation lifecycle. Purpose-built for experimentation, the Ion cultivates an entirely new way of doing business and bridges Houston’s gritty and entrepreneurial past, present, and future.

Gensler’s interior work on the Prototyping Lab, Venture Capital Studio, XR Lab, Ion Go Suite, and common lounge spaces curates a sense of discovery. A raw and industrial vibe honors the building’s structure which has been long hidden, while also evoking a sense of opportunity and potential within an elegant and hospitable Class A environment.
