Climate protection is now a top priority as extreme weather threatens infrastructure worldwide. As such, businesses are looking for innovative ways to cut carbon footprints in daily operations as a means of derisking real estate investments. Resilient design is good for the bottom line. This is fueling demand for a first-to-market facility that combine sustainability with an elevated form and function of the office. Environmental sustainability and employee experience are now inextricably linked when companies are envisioning a new, long-term home.
Integrating a facility with its environmental landscape is no small feat, but Southstone Yards is no small project. As one of the largest mass timber structures in the country, the 242,000 square-foot building proudly boasts some of the most environmentally friendly credentials in North Texas. The LEED certified building has reduced its indoor water waste by 34 percent and has cut its outdoor water waste in half.
Southstone Yards has since drawn immense attraction from the business community, secured an anchor tenant for the building, and has begun expanding its mass timber project to a second building currently under construction. Prioritizing environmental integration alongside worker health has resulted in a structure replete with fresh air, a fitness center, and outdoor spaces for workers to enjoy.
