Challenge

Across the Caribbean, luxury resorts face growing pressure to differentiate as experience-driven travel reshapes guest expectations. In competitive leisure markets like the Bahamas, resorts are rethinking how underutilized spaces can transform into vibrant destinations that reflect local identity and evoke a sense of discovery for guests around the clock. By reconsidering how their space is used, resorts can attract a wider range of visitors for distinctly varied experiences under one roof.

Solution

Gensler’s design vision took a bold approach by proposing to eliminate 80% of the casino’s gaming machines to make way for a versatile jazz venue capable of transforming from day to night. This new music lounge is designed as a highly visible and inviting destination, aimed at attracting modern, destination-driven guests. The luxurious atmosphere is crafted with rich finishes, curated artwork, and immersive installations, harmonizing with the casino’s extensive art collection.

Impact

The transformation introduces a new cultural anchor within Baha Mar, expanding its appeal beyond gaming to a more diverse, experience-focused audience. By blending live music, design, and local identity, the venue enhances guest engagement and encourages guests to linger longer across the property. The project demonstrates how strategic redesign can unlock new value from existing spaces, positioning hospitality destinations to better compete in an increasingly experience-driven market.
