Sri Lanka’s architectural heritage combines ancient motifs like stupas and rock temples with Buddhist monasteries and colonial-era English and Dutch neoclassic influences. Nature and cultural traditions blend with these influences to create a distinct modern style — one that ITC Hotels celebrate with their first international mixed-use luxury development on land between the Indian Ocean and Beira Lake.
ITC Hotels worked with Gensler to create ITC Ratnadipa, a contemporary luxury experience that is inspired by Sri Lanka’s architectural history. Spiraling stupa-like towers combine with materials such as wood and stone and extensive landscaping to celebrate local building traditions and the country’s appreciation of its natural surroundings. Midway between the towers, the “Ahasa One” skybridge and its open-air bridge pool connects the towers and provides breathtaking views of the ocean and the lake.
With its instantly recognizable features in the Colombo skyline, ITC Ratnadipa has become a new luxury destination in the Indian Ocean. It’s use of local materials and forms, and its nod to Sri Lanka’s rich heritage has created a unique addition to the country’s landscape and a modern new chapter in its proud architectural history.
